5/1/04:

Subcommittee is celebrating the release of their new CD “What Goes Wrong” with a CD release party at The Stanhope House on Saturday, May 1.

Playing a musical combination of funk, punk, jazz, Latin, reggae and visceral rock -n- roll, Subcommittee have been active players in the northern New Jersey music scene for 10 years. Incorporating sharp horn arrangements, sparring vocals and intricate guitar driven melodies, Subcommittee have set themselves apart by creating a distinctly unique sound with daring, yet danceable music, regardless of current trends.

Joining forces with producer Charles Johnson (Kool & The Gang, Lauryn Hill) Subcommittee entered the studio in June of 2003 to record their much anticipated 2nd full length studio CD. After some expected and unexpected delays, the band is anxious for their fans to finally hear the fruits of their labor. “Sometimes it seemed like this disc would never come out,” said front-man Bo Bailey. “Our fans started calling us on it. Last year we were hinting at a fall release. Then, we hoped to have it out for the holidays. Once the holidays passed, we hoped for spring, not wanting to schedule something in the dead of winter and risk having it snowed out. Finally it’s in the can, the release date is May 1, and we’re sticking to it.”

In conjuction with S.T.A.R.S. Productions and Budweiser True Music, the CD release party will feature giveaways, drink specials, and a raffle for a CD/mp3 player. The new CD will be available at 1/2 price ($5) for this night only. Having made The Stanhope House somewhat of a home base in the last 2 years, Subcommittee will continue its tradition of bringing fresh new talent to the club. Local, original acts Particle Zoo and Mindspent will kick off the party at 9 PM, still leaving time for Subcommittee to play 2 solid sets of music. The Stanhope House offers a dinner & show package as well. Call 973-347-0458 or visit www.stanhopehouse.com for details. All patrons must be 21 with ID.

“What Goes Wrong” will be available in record stores throughout the region on May 1, 2004, and at all Subcommittee performances. The band is planning an aggressive performance schedule to promote the CD, and to spread their music to new and old fans by networking with other independent artists and promoters both nationally and internationally.

8/6/03:

The first half of Summer 2003 began an action-packed schedule for area favorites Subcommittee, and their schedule for the rest of the season is just as ambitious.

Known for their original blend of rock, funk, Latin rhythms, reggae and hints of jazz; the five-piece band played more than a dozen events and venues in July from Vernon to Long Beach Island and York, Pa.

In conjunction with Budweiser and S.T.A.R.S. Productions, Subcommittee last week played at the sold out Manchester United v. Barcelona soccer match in Philadelphia. More than 68,000 people attended the game, which was the first-ticketed event at the newly built Lincoln Financial Center stadium. Subcommittee played their original songs on the main concourse as the gates opened and the international soccer fans streamed in for the pre-game festivities. The band’s appearance was filmed and aired on NBC News in Philadelphia.

Truly an international event, the band entertained soccer fans from England, Spain, Columbia, South Africa, Argentina and Brazil. From the first guitar note to the final cymbal crash, they held the crowd’s attention for their non-stop 2-hour set.

Subcommittee will play a similar show this Sunday, August 10 at Giant’s Stadium in East Rutherford for the Jets vs. Bengals preseason football game. They’ll play at 10 am for the tailgating crowd up until the game begins at 1pm, cementing their reputation as a band who knows how to have a good time. Similar shows are being scheduled for the regular football season.

Locally, the group is a featured act at this Saturday’s "Night of the Sausage" at the Black Thorn Inn in Montague, N.J., with Big Boss Sausage, Brian McLoughlin Band, Blue Smoke, Laughin’ Luggage, Pacifists of Fury, and Alligator. The event starts at 4 p.m. Subcommittee will play around dusk.

Subcommittee’s second bus trip to Havana in New Hope, PA is on for August 29. The bus will depart with fans and some band members on board from Stanhope at 7 p.m., and will arrive at the club for the band’s performance at 10 p.m. Tickets are $30 to anyone at least 21 years old. The price includes refreshments on the bus, free admission to the club, and of course, a ride back to New Jersey. Tickets are available at the band’s shows and through the Website, www.subcommittee.org.

More upcoming shows include South Street Seaport in New York City on Labor Day with The Nerds, and a performance at the 3-day Bongo Bash Festival in New York State on September 6. The band will return to their local haunt The Stanhope House on August 28. Also, be on the lookout for information about their much-anticipated new CD release. Subcommittee completed recording 11 new songs in June, and a fall release is expected.

2/1/03.
Writing on the eve of actually getting this website  to work again, and hoping all goes smoothly tomorrow.  These problems have caused much stress for all of us who know that folks out there depend on this site to find out what's coming up.   We're happy that a local company called The Darn Barn is providing us with new webspace, and will be helping with a major overhaul and redesign!  We've got big ideas, (don't we all!) and want this to be a truly interactive website, with live show downloads, streaming video, stream of conciousness web logs  by band members and a message board for this sub-community we all know and love. You deserve it!

The shows have been great lately, and your enthusiasm plays a huge part!  We'll be venturing out of home territory up to Suffern, NY to support our compadres The Buddha Brains at the Ramapo Valley Brew Pub.     It would be great to see some of our fans up there!  We'll be starting at 9pm sharp.  We're planning bus trips to New Hope in the spring for gigs at Havana and some other announcements, maybe, soon.  How's that for vague?  Locally, "Last Thursday" shows at The Stanhope House will continue through March!  Thanks again for your support.See ya soon!

11/30/02.
Thank you, thank you THANK YOU  to everyone who came out to The Stanhope House for the Thanksgiving Eve Gala.More shows coming up there in the next few months.Namely, THE LAST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH, at least until February.  We're very excited about this venue being excited to have us.  Mark your calendars for December 26, January 30 and February 27th.  To shake things up even more, we'll be bringing in some new bands for our fans to check out at these gigs.  On December 26, Local act Mindspent will join in the fun, and in January we'll be joined by another cool up-an-coming band, The Buddha Brains.  We played with these guys at The Underpass, and they are a strong, tight unit, a straight-up rock-n-roll band.  February will bring the arrival of NYC's The Housepets.  These guys play a great mix of Zappa-esque garage rock with a little Johnny Cash thrown in for fun.   Great eclectic originals.  Studio tracking for the new album has finally begun.  Looks like an early '03 release.  In the meantime, more and more of our shows are being recorded. You just gotta find the bootleggers yourselves!

9/15/02.  Friday the 13th was a lucky night for anyone who attended the Krogh's gig this past weekend.  3 new songs were played for the first time before a live audience.  The crowd favorite seems to have been "My Confession" a song with a heavy reggae influence, and interesting, intriguing back and forth vocals between Bo & Shannon.  This one is sure to become a crowd favorite.  Also making their debuts on Friday were the Latin flavored  "At the Bottom",  and the closest thing the band has come to a ballad yet, "Upstairs" which features dueling Tom Waits Song-style guitars and a very hummable melody.  Look for all of these songs to be popping up at future shows.
What was that Bo said about a new album?  That's right, the band has been demoing some of their latest material and plan to lay down some basic tracks soon!     Shooting for a late 2002 release.  Stay posted.

8/11/02.  The whirlwind weekend.  Two shows, one at Connections on Friday and The Black Thorn Inn in Montague, NJ with Big Boss Sausage on Saturday.  Friday saw the release of a new CD by The Fiendz, who it is good to see back in action, and they sounded as great as ever.   Flatus played with their trademark fury, and Destroy The Plot kicked off the evening with a powerful set.  The Big Boss Sausage Fest, as it may very well come to be known,  was one of those events that is going to end up being twice as big the following year.  After some execllent Dead/Allman inspired music from Alligator, and Brian McLoughlin's inimitable acoustic show, Subcommittee took the flatbed (ie, the stage) at 8pm and jammed through sundown til the stars came out.  Lots of folks came out for this one, families and kids included,  and it was especially cool to see the kiddies bouncing around to the music.   Thanks to Big Boss Sausage and Rampage Entertainment for putting it all together, The Black Thorn Inn, and the Montague Volunteer Fire Department.  The band is taking a month off to polish some new material, and will be back in September at The Stanhope House on the 8th, and Kroghs on the 13th.  Click for show info

6/4/02.
Great night at the Underpass this past weekend.  Holus Bolus made a great comeback after over 2 years in hiding, and Brian Fitzpatrick wowed the crowd with his set as well.  His whole band couldn't make it, but Ed  ROCKED on the keyboard & accordian.  Do yourself a favor, and go check out Brian Fitzpatrick.  He does that singer/songwriter thing and remains tough the entire time without ever stepping over that delicate line between heartfelt and cheesy.  Bo was in great form for his birthday bash, and Doug owes him a bottle of scotch.
In the meantime, Subcommittee is taking a month off to work on some new tunes, which will debut at the next gigTHE STANHOPE HOUSE on July 11.  We'll be playing 2 sets that night, starting at 9:30.  Cheaper cover this time too, only $6.00.  Bargains by the bagful.

5/29/02.
Thanks to everyone who came out to the Stanhope House on Thursday!  We'll be back there sometime in July.  Until then, we'll be playing an important benefit with some great bands this Sunday, June 2 at the Fountain House in Fredon, NJ.  The event will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life.  Admission is $15 and includes food.   The event is indoor/outdoor.  Bands play inside, the windows will all be open so people outside can hear the show. there will be raffles and some other
games/events during the day as well.  For a complete schedule, check out shows.

5/8/02.
Okay. The West Wing starts in an hour, so I gotta make this quick.  Big shout-out, (and that means a lot, because I HATE shout-outs.It just sounds so dumb.  What are you shouting about?  Why am I shouting?!?), to the Big Boss Sausage crew for coming to check us out at P.I.C.C.'s in Delhi, NY on April 27.  The locals and college kids alike, (there's a SUNY campus right down the street) caught the vibe and stayed on their feet til the last note of the 3rd set was played at 2:30 am.    Thanks to Soup for the gig, John at the club, the Chekur Brothers for their unwavering support, and Clay for not skipping town with John's drums.  Go to Shows for the setlist.  While you're there, take note of the next Subcommittee show with MMMM at The Stanhope House on Thursday,  May 23.  Peace out.  That sounds kind of dumb, too.

4/21/02
I like this color.  It's a little easier on the eyes.  Anyway, what can be said about the 4/20 Connections show besides "great brownies, Bo-man!!"  Subcommittee cooked up a batch of smokin' tunes ranging from new to heavy to the funky classics in a set lasting well over an hour.   The pre-arranged setlist ended at Warrior Funk, (go to the shows page for setlists) but the band got approval from the crowd & mangement to "Play for another half hour if you want."  What else they going to do, go home?   They turned in a 4-song encore with Singing Blake Through Chinatown, Mango, 7/8, and ending the night with the crowd-pleasing Midget Song.  Thanks to Porcelain Fishbowl and Anger for helping out with this show.  Up next:  April 27th.Truck up to Delhi, NY for a night of mahyem and motel merriment.unless we find someone to put us up for free.Last show before Stanhope House on May 23.  More details on the shows page.

3/24/02~
Good show with Flatus Saturday night.  This was the first time that Doug used his new Zoom BFX-708 pedal on the bass.  For the record, the band played 1+2=12, Phur Phur, Sound Check, Egg, Warrior Funk, Missing One, City Street, Junco, Big Bang & Midgets.  Maybe a "setlist" link is in order. We'll think about that one.

3/15/02~
Last week's Krogh's gig was off the hook!  The band introduced a brand new song, called "Missing One".  It's got a phat rolling bassline, and a brisk choppy guitar/horm riff.  Lots of nice melodys from Bo with John taking care of the backup vocals.  It was Shannon's first show with his new Boss signal processor, and it seems to be working well.  They'll definitely be booking there again in the future, probably in the summertime. The band has plans for more active management of this website.A photos page and a message board are coming soon, along with lyrics, advice column, and an archive of practically every flyer from the Death Cookie days to present.  If you've got any old flyers you can scan and send  to us, that would be helpful.   There are more Subcommittee shows on the horizon, mark your calendars!

3/2/02~
Well, it's been a tumultuous year for Subcommittee, the biggest challenge of late being the departure & re-emergence of front-man Bo Bailey. After taking a year off to join The Step Kings on the road, Bo has returned to the fold, his restlessness  & ambition not allowing him to be a sideman in someone else's project! A period of re-integration has been successfully completed, (namely, learing the songs written in his absence). There are no hard feelings, and nobody hates anybody else, for those of you who have been asking.

In other news, Doug Pearsall, Bass player of the band, cut his hair & got married. No shit! Actually, the haircut was due to his appearance in a community theater production last year. He married Jamie Goldenbaum on October 21, 2001. The band played a very drunken set at the reception, much to the chagrin of the Bride's grandmother.

Meanwhile, John Scherer (Drums) lost his beloved fish, Mr. Blub. Well, not lost really, we know exactly where he isWrapped up in John's freezer, awaiting the spring thaw. Mr. Blub was WAY too big to simply flush & forget.

Shannon Woods (Guitar) can kick all of your asses at tennis.

Alex Zox, (Saxophone), has up and moved to Warwick, NY. The commute to rehearsals is longer than he thought it would be. No matter though, he remains, if you'll pardon the pun, "Committed"
